Earlier today Yahoo’s CEO had told everyone that they would still be open to deal with Microsoft for a search deal. Although not said in such simple terms as saying “a boat load of money” and that “the right technology was involved.” This is pretty shocking but a calm play on Yahoo’s side. Considering they turned down talks of billions of dollars in the past from Microsoft. Although it does go the old saying, “Money can buy anything for the right amount.”
Yahoo CEO, Ms.Bartz, also went on to say that they are ready and actively looking to buy social networking and online video start-ups. Although they made lots of layoffs this year they have also announced that they have no plans to layoff anyone past that point. Taking this all in to consideration it looks like yahoo might make a come back with something other than just search or an everything portal.
There was a report recently release by The Nielsen Company that indicated that online and mobile video usage is up by more than 50 percent. This is a huge figure considering the fact that this time last year it was half of that. Now we know that Television itself just dominates the market itself but to see such things rising on the mobile and online front is a huge thing for the domain industry. Check the chart below:
Now as you can see from the chart that the usuage of TV in the home is nothing to be passed up. Obviously this will not be trumpped any time soon but this chart indicates that there is an uprising in people on the internet. Pay close attention to the Mobile Video figure, it is actually higher than Online Video itself.
Having mobile video itself be higher than online video speaks volumes in where everything in the industry is going. Not saying that .mobi is going to take off or anything but it might be a force in the coming years. Keep you eyes peeled for changes to come.
